Naples ended Inter Milan's impressive streak of ten consecutive league victories by snatching a draw (1-1) at San Siro on Sunday at the end of the 29th day.
Matteo Darmian opened the scoring in the 43rd minute by heading home a cross from Alessandro Bastoni. But Napoli, without their scorer Victor Osimhen, confined to the substitutes' bench, equalized on a header from Juan Jesus (81st).
Inter remains well in the lead with 14 points ahead of AC Milan (2nd), winner earlier in Verona (3-1), and is heading towards the 20th Italian champion title in its history.
But Simone Inzaghi's team had a tricky week with its elimination in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid on penalties, and now these first points lost in the league in 2024. With its 76 points , and nine matches still to go, Inter can still make Serie A history: they can indeed beat the record for points pocketed in a season (102 by Juventus in 2013-14). For their part, Napoli remains 7th with 45 points, 31 lengths from Inter and two from 6th place, occupied by Atalanta, the last qualifier for Europe.
