Serie A: AC Milan on the verge of buying the land where its new stadium will be built

The Lombard club which currently shares the legendary San Siro with Inter Milan now has 256,000 m2 in the San Francesco district of San Donato Milanese, in the south-eastern suburbs of Milan, in the exact opposite and 15 kilometers from its current stage.

According to the Italian press, consultations between the municipality of San Donato Milanese and local residents must enter a decisive phase next week with a view to a possible issuance of the building permit. Last September, AC Milan announced that it had set its sights on San Donato Milanese for a stadium with a capacity of 70,000 seats, without specifying the possible date of its inauguration.

AC Milan and Inter initially wanted to build a new stadium that they would share, not far from San Siro. But this joint project was abandoned, because San Siro cannot be destroyed "due to" its cultural interest". San Siro, of its official name Giuseppe-Meazza, is a concrete cathedral of 80,000 seats built in 1926 but not suitable more to the needs of the clubs despite its modernization for the 1990 World Cup. In 2026, San Siro will host the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympic Games.
