Roland-Garros 2023: The fiery Marseillaise of Lucas Pouille with the public of court 14

A great sequence and a lot of emotion. Lucas Pouille qualified for the second round of Roland-Garros on Sunday by beating the Austrian Jurij Rodionov (134th in the world) 6-2, 6-4, 6-3, a performance he had not achieved for nearly four-year-old in a Grand Slam tournament, at the 2019 US Open.

After winning the match point, he raised his arms in the air and clenched his fists, sticking his tongue out and widening his eyes like an All Black during the haka. Then after shaking hands with Rodionov, he came back to sing the Marseillaise with the public, in the center of court 14 which is so successful for him.

"It was a moment that I wanted to share with them, when they started singing the Marseillaise at the end of the match, and wanted to stay on the court as long as possible, to experience these emotions, and enjoy every minute by their side. It was just crazy,” he explained, hoping to continue playing on 14.
