The Polish goalkeeper, Marcin Bulka, proved to be the last bulwark of Nice at the top of his game. Despite his crucial saves, including three at the start of the match, his brilliant performance did not prevent the defeat. Although he anticipated Bourigeaud's penalty, his reach was not enough to reach it.
The Rennes midfielder once again demonstrated his talent. With a goal from the penalty spot and remarkable performances with the ball, he also brightened up the match with a few technical gestures. Physically affected, he had to give up his place in the 77th minute.
FLOPS
Julien Stéphan quickly discerned that Gaëtan Laborde would not be the hero of the evening for OGC Nice. Aligned on the left wing in a 4-3-3 tactical pattern, the professional striker, facing his former club, had difficulty being called upon and was well controlled by Guéla Doué. He was replaced by Cho in the 64th minute.
As Ligue 1 reminds us from time to time, football does not always guarantee an attractive spectacle over the entire 90 minutes. Arnaud Kalimuendo's second goal at the start of the second half (in the 54th minute) significantly slowed down the game, thus definitively sealing the fate of the match. The Niçois lost their dangerous character, showing little reaction, while the Rennes were content to preserve the score. An approach that could have had some surprises in store for them at the end of the match.
