"Thank you, see you next...", wrote Karim Benzema in an Instagram post posted Monday evening and since deleted. Synonym of end of season? It would not be surprising seeing the photo captioned by this sentence. The French striker of Real Madrid gave an overview of the state of his right foot, almost a week after a victory against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday May 24 (2-1).
According to his historical adviser Karim Djaziri, Benzema suffered a gash in his right foot after being stepped on at the start of the match. The images published by Djaziri on Twitter in the wake of the meeting are eloquent. That did not prevent the Madrid captain from scoring and playing the entire game.
Benzema, whose future at Real would be uncertain, has not yet extended his contract which expires on June 30. The Merengues host Athletic Club this Sunday (6:30 p.m.) for the last day of La Liga. They are 2nd with a point ahead of Atlético de Madrid, while Barça have already won the league title.
