Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Enzo Lefort, Sara Balzer and Johanne Defay among the new French selections

Less than four months before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which will be held on the Seine on July 26, the list of officials selected continues to expand from week to week. This Friday, 26 new names came to complete it. Some of whom will be real gold prospectors in the capital.

The Olympic Selection Advisory Commission (CCSO) therefore met under the presidency of Anne Tournier-Lasserve, deputy vice-president of the CNOSF in charge of high level. The CCSO heard presentations from the French Boxing Federation, the French Fencing Federation, the French Surfing Federation and the French Sailing Federation after they made the selection of their athletes.

Concerning fencing, two weapons were concerned, namely the women's saber and the men's foil. No surprise in both cases, with in particular the selections of Sara Balzer, the current world number 1 in sabre, who will be accompanied by Manon Brunet-Apithy (4th in the world) and Cécilia Berder (18th in the world), returning after having given birth of her first child. Among the foilists, Enzo Lefort, double individual world champion and current 4th in the world, will be the headliner ahead of Maxime Pauty (36th) and Julien Mertine (28th), which means that Rafael Savin, despite his 16th place in the world hierarchy, was left aside in favor of Maximilien Chastenet in the role of replacement.

In surfing, the identity of those selected was an open secret - the names of Johanne Defay, Vahiné Fierro and Kauli Vaast having already been acquired for several weeks - but at least here they are made official alongside Joan Duru. Ditto in boxing where only the presence of Djamili Dini Aboudou Moindze in the men's 92kg category is real news. Finally in sailing Charline Picon is among the six new names alongside those of Laurianne Nolot, Axel Mazella, Sarah Steyaert, Erwan Fischer and Clément Pequin.
