OM: package, Gigot will miss the match in Clermont... and “maybe more”

Defender and captain of Olympique de Marseille Samuel Gigot will be absent at least against Clermont on Saturday, on the occasion of the 24th day of Ligue 1, OM coach Jean-Louis Gasset announced on Friday.

Released in the 84th minute against Montpellier on Sunday (4-1 victory at the Vélodrome), “Gigot has an acromioclavicular sprain and will be absent” against Clermont and “perhaps more”, indicated Mr. Gasset during a conference of press at the Commanderie, the Olympic training center. Author of a big mistake by missing a clearance on Sunday at the start of the match, which allowed Montpellier to open the scoring, Gigot remains a sure bet in the Marseille defense, his aggressiveness compensating for his occasional placement errors.

Jean-Louis Gasset also specified that midfielder Jordan Veretout, suffering from discomfort in his psoas (ventral girdle), will not make the trip to Auvergne either. Their unavailability is added to that of Rongier, who must speak with a professor on Monday, the goalkeeper Blanco and the right side Amir Murillo, whose absence is likely to last longer: “We lost him. He was operated on,” Gasset said about the Panamanian international.

The coach has made no secret of his desire to rotate his squad, of which “all 20 players are capable of playing” in the coming weeks, while Marseille will play five matches in two weeks until the international break.
