NBA: Jaylen Brown extends in Boston for the biggest contract in the history of the United States

The Boston Celtics and winger Jaylen Brown have agreed to a five-year, $304 million contract extension, setting the record for the richest contract in NBA history. Brown's agent Jason Glushon confirmed the deal on Tuesday.

According to The Athletic, the extension of the supermax contract is fully guaranteed, with a trade kicker and no player options.

Brown, 26, has one year left on his current contract before the extension takes effect for the 2024-25 season. He will earn $28.5 million for the upcoming season.

His contract will surpass that of two-time league MVP Nikola Jokic, who signed a five-year, $276 million deal with the Denver Nuggets.

The Celtics selected Brown with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Last season, he hit highs in points (26.6) and rebounds (6.9) per game, as well as 3.5 assists in 67 games. He shot 49.1% from the field.

In seven seasons, Brown appeared in 470 games (363 starts), averaging 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

The Celtics have made the playoffs in each of Brown's seasons, losing four times in the Eastern Conference Finals and once in the NBA Finals.
