Mercato: the Saudi club of Al-Ittihad is still "studying" Kanté's "medical examinations"

The Saudi club of Al-Ittihad "studying the results of the medical examinations" of N'Golo Kanté, approached to join this team of Saudi Arabia like Karim Benzema, said Thursday an internal source at the club to AFP. The Frenchman “Kante has signed a binding agreement but not a definitive contract. We continue to study the results of the medical examinations” of the French midfielder, said this source. “He has a long history of injuries and we want to be careful before signing a huge contract,” she added.

On Wednesday, another internal source at the Jeddah-based club told AFP that Kanté, 32, had signed a "three-year" contract with Al-Ittihad, like Benzema a few days earlier.

After the announcement of the arrival of the 2018 world champion, several media had put forward the hypothesis of an imbroglio on this transfer, while the defensive midfielder of Chelsea had a complicated season due to multiple injuries. In particular, he recently felt pain in an adductor and missed the last four matches of the English championship. The native of Rueil-Malmaison, near Paris, lived through the desert last season, away from the field for more than six months due to a hamstring injury, then to an adductor. With 53 selections in the France team, Kanté remains a part of the Blues, even if he could not participate in the last World Cup in Qatar due to physical glitches.

According to several media, the salary offered by Al-Ittihad to the winner of the Premier League in 2016 and 2017 (with Leicester then Chelsea) and the Champions League in 2021 (with Chelsea) could reach 100 million euros per year. A sum that has not been confirmed to AFP by the club's internal source. Other media, however, mentioned the figure of €50m per season.

Benzema signed a three-year contract with the Jeddah club on Tuesday, a few months after the thunderous arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in this country which launched a major offensive on several football stars playing in Europe, including Lionel Messi. The Argentinian finally chose Inter Miami, in the United States.
