Mercato: “Osimhen will go to Real, PSG or an English club,” says De Laurentiis

Asked about Osimhen's statements made to the American channel CBS on the sidelines of the African Cup of Nations stating that he had already decided his future for next summer, De Laurentiis did not appear surprised. “We have known all this since last summer, which is also why the negotiations for the extension of his contract, certainly friendly, were so long,” declared “ADL” after a meeting of the Italian Football League. “We know that he will go to Real Madrid, or to Paris SG, or to an English club,” continued the manager.

Highly coveted in the off-season after having contributed to Napoli's third Italian championship title with his 26 goals, Osimhem, 25, finally remained in Serie A, but Naples is experiencing a nightmare season (9th in the championship, elimination from Italian Cup, defeat in the Super Cup final) and has already lost any chance of retaining its championship title.

Osimhen, 25, extended his contract by one year at the end of December, until 2026. According to the Italian press, this contract would be accompanied by a release clause of between 120 and 130 million euros. Voted best African player of the year 2023, joined Naples in 2020 from Lille and scored 67 goals in 119 matches in all competitions in the Napoli jersey.

De Laurentiis also dismissed the hypothesis of an arrival as coach of Jose Mourinho, without a club since AS Roma terminated his contract in mid-January after two and a half seasons. “Mourinho in Naples, this is not news, he was at Roma, he is now free (...) He is a great coach, very friendly, who is part of the history of a certain football,” underlined De Laurentiis who sacked Frenchman Rudi Garcia after four months in mid-November before entrusting his team until the end of the season to Walter Mazzarri. “His destiny will undoubtedly take him outside Italy, at least not in Naples,” he concluded.
