Mercato: Klopp closes the door to a departure from Salah

Courted by Saudi Arabia and more specifically by Al-Ittihad, Mohamed Salah seemed to be moving away from the Reds to find his former teammate Fabinho and play alongside Benzema. But at a press conference, Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp wanted to reassure his supporters about the future of his Egyptian star

“It is difficult to comment on media stories, from our point of view there is nothing to say. Mohamed Salah is a Liverpool player, he is, has been and will be essential for us. If there was something, the answer would be no,” said the technician at a press conference. For the German, Salah is "100%" invested in the Reds and there is nothing to discuss further. “My philosophy is to think about a problem when I have one. There is nothing at the moment”.

The 31-year-old Egyptian extended his contract last summer to bring it until June 2025. The al-Ittihad club would however prepare a fabulous offer for the former AS Roma striker, after having already attracted Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kanté and Fabinho in particular.

The transfer market closes on September 20 for the Saudi Pro League, three weeks after closing in England (September 1), which is of particular concern to Klopp. European clubs can indeed now lose players without being able to replace them before the winter transfer window.

“Now we have this problem. Maybe before it was the same with Russia, they had a different transfer period (from the Premier League, editor's note), but it was not with these crazy sums, "commented the Liverpool coach. “It's a challenge for everyone and we have to learn to deal with it. The authorities should clarify things, that the business is done at the same time, but I'm not sure they want to”.
