Ghanaian international defender from Clermont Alidu Seidu has signed with Stade Rennais until 2028, the Breton club announced Monday evening.
Aged 23, Seidu, a central defender who trained at the Jean-Marc Guillou Academy, was under contract since 2019 with the Auvergne club. He has just participated in the African Cup of Nations with Ghana, eliminated in the group stage.
The amount of his transfer has not been communicated.
“He is a player who has been identified for some time, who has proven himself at Clermont for a few years now, with an incredible mentality and great leadership. He adapted very quickly to Ligue 1 and is one of the best in his position,” commented Florian Maurice, the technical director of Rennes, quoted in the club press release.
Winner 3-2 Friday evening in Lyon, Rennes is currently 9th in Ligue 1.
Clermont Foot, 17th and relegated, had announced a little earlier that it had obtained the loan without purchase option of the young U19 international from Rennes, Jérémy Jacquet, until the end of the season.
Aged 18, the central defender (1.88 m) only played part of a match in Ligue 1, on January 13 against Nice. He entered in the 86th minute of the match won 2-0 by the Breton club.
