Ligue 1: the four pass for Rennes

Rennes four by four. Moribund in the first part of the season, the Bretons are regaining color under the leadership of Julien Stéphan. Winners of their three previous matches in Ligue 1, they dominated Montpellier (2-1) this Saturday, during the 20th day. And this with goals signed Martin Terrier and Arnaud Kalimuendo. Teji Savanier reduced the score at the start of the last quarter of an hour, in vain. Rennes is ninth in the ranking and MHSC, 12th.

The Rennais entered their match perfectly. After just four minutes of play, the locals took the lead thanks to a goal from Martin Terrier, who recovered twice to find the net. Besides this goal at the very start of the match, this first half was rather choppy. Stade Rennais dominated the game, especially during the first 25 minutes, but rested on its laurels at the end of the half, letting Montpellier create a few chances, without finding the net.

In front at the break (1-0), the Rennais once again made a perfect start after returning from the locker room. From the 46th minute of play, the young MHSC defender Lucas Mincarelli Davin, overtaken by Guéla Doué, committed a gross error with a tackle from behind on Désiré's brother, causing a penalty. Arnaud Kalimuendo took care of it and took Benjamin Lecomte on the wrong foot. The break was made for Stade Rennais, who fought at the end of the match to maintain their lead.

While Rennais thought they would take the lead in the 66th minute thanks to a goal from Amine Gouiri, Benjamin Bourigeaud was finally declared offside at the start of the action, allowing the MHSC to believe in it again. A few minutes later, as a boss, Montpellier captain Téji Savanier scored a goal from outside the penalty area in the 73rd minute, allowing his teammates to believe in it again.

The MHSC pushed at the end of the match to equalize but Steve Mandanda and Stade Rennais held on to offer themselves a sixth consecutive success, the fourth in a row in Ligue 1. They remain 9th in Ligue 1 but are only two behind small points from Reims, 6th, who will face TFC on Sunday.
