The Spaniard Quique Sanchez Flores, who worked for Benfica Lisbon and Atlético Madrid, is the new coach of Sevilla FC, the Andalusian club announced on Monday. The 58-year-old technician “arrives at the Nervión club after the dismissal of Diego Alonso last Saturday,” explains the Sevillian club in a press release published on its website.
Diego Alonso, who arrived at the beginning of October to replace José Luis Mendilibar, paid for the team's poor results, having failed to achieve the slightest victory in the league and in C1 during his two months on the bench.
Quique Sanchez Flores, a former Valencia, Real Madrid and Zaragoza player, won a Europa League with Atlético in 2010, when he managed the Colchoneros of Diego Forlan and Kun Agüero. He spent the last two seasons in La Liga at the helm of Getafe, after trying his luck in the United Arab Emirates, China and England.
Eliminated from all European competitions, Sevilla FC has had a mediocre start to the season and is in 17th place in the championship, tied on points with the first relegated team.
Quique Sanchez Flores will lead the team on Tuesday for an already important match in the race to maintain, on the ground of the Andalusian neighbor of Granada (19th).
