Formula 1: a drone capable of flying at 350 km/h to film Max Verstappen on track

Did the Red Bull team start writing the future of television broadcasts of the Formula 1 World Championship a few days ago? Possible. Max Verstappen and his team broadcast a sequence with striking images of the car during a test on the Silverstone circuit using a drone, capable, according to the Milton Keynes structure, of traveling at 350 km/h! The little flying machine did not need to go so fast to follow the Dutchman on the wet track of the famous British circuit but the impression of speed is astonishing.

The three-time world champion was followed by the machine piloted by a man wearing a virtual helmet a few meters from the circuit. The accelerations of the drone which “dances” around the car sometimes leave the pilot on the spot, amazed by the technology. “I never thought I would one day see a drone flying so fast just to film,” Verstappen said of the machine capable of reaching 300 km/h in four seconds. Lightning-fast acceleration and a feat that no car on the circuit is capable of achieving. At top speed, the flying object can reach 350 km/h. Red Bull took a year to design this “rocket”, to lighten it and optimize its performance by ensuring that its fairing was very aerodynamic.

“It gives a really different perspective from what we usually see in Formula 1,” added Max Verstappen, who perhaps imagines the use of these machines to film grand prix in the future. In alpine skiing but also in mountain biking certain events have already been broadcast thanks to this process which still raises questions around safety. If unfortunately a drone were to fall on the runway in contact with a car, the consequences could be dramatic.
