Football: Nicolas Holveck, president of AS Nancy-Lorraine, died at 52

Sad news. Lorraine football is in mourning this Monday. AS Nancy-Lorraine announced via a press release the death of its president, Nicolas Holveck. Aged 52, who spent time in Monaco or Rennes, the manager had been battling colon cancer for years. “He fought to the end against illness and on behalf of the entire club, from shareholders to licensees, we offer our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones,” announced the Lorraine club. A tribute will be paid to him in consultation with his family.

President of Stade Rennais between 2020 and 2022, Nicolas Holveck had decided to step aside to heal. Before that, he served as deputy general director of AS Monaco in 2014 until 2020. Last August, he responded favorably to the proposal from AS Nancy-Lorraine to take the position of president. But on March 20, “for medical reasons”, the manager once again withdrew from the National club. Since 2021, he has been fighting this colon cancer.

Last December, in the columns of the JDD, he delivered, after having undergone 28 sessions of chemo: “It is almost impossible to imagine that I am sick. I fight every day, I play sports when I can. I try to take the famous 10,000 steps a day, to eat a normal diet, to pay attention to my weight. (...) we must not feel sorry for ourselves. All the people who suffer from this illness are in good spirits, we fight, there are no other choices. For my wife, my children, it’s important.
