Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, suffering from advanced cancer, will finally realize his dream of becoming Liverpool manager for a Legends charity match against Ajax next month at Anfield.
The 76-year-old Swedish technician revealed in January that he had "at best a year" to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The former manager, who led England to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, revealed his unconditional love for Liverpool at the time before expressing his regret at not being able to coach them and his wish to one day become coach of the club of his heart. The Mersey club did not remain indifferent to the wishes of Eriksson, who offered him to sit on the bench on March 23.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp previously said he was more than happy to hand the reins of his team to Eriksson for a day at the club's training ground. Better still, it is he who will lead the Reds against the legends of another legendary team, Ajax, for a charity match at Anfield. Among the legends announced, include Djibril Cissé, goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, hero of the Istanbul miracle (victory in the 2005 Champions League final after being led 3-0 by AC Milan) or even Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio .
