Foot: Chabane, ex-president of Angers, tried in March 2024 for money laundering in an organized gang

The former president of the Angers SCO football club, Saïd Chabane, will be tried before the Bobigny criminal court from March 25 to 29, 2024 for illegal exercise of the activity of sports agent and organized money laundering, announced Wednesday the tribunal. Examination of the case over five days "will make it possible to get to the bottom of the questions which are above all procedural questions," reacted to AFP Me Bernard Benaiem, lawyer for Mr. Chabane, who believes that "the folder is empty.

“This duration does not presume the content of the debates,” according to Me Benaiem who considers that the lifting of judicial review, decided on Wednesday by the court, is “an encouraging sign”. Mr. Chabane and the four other people referred to the court contest the facts of which they are accused. The French Football Federation (FFF) is a civil party in this case.

Having resigned from his post as president since March 21, Saïd Chabane gave way to his son Romain Chabane. A first search, in June 2022, took place at the headquarters of the Angevin club and that of Saint-Étienne, as part of the investigation carried out in Bobigny. Of the three players' agents then placed in police custody, only one had the license allowing him to practice this profession. Then in January, the SCO had once again been raided. The club then ensured that they had nothing to be ashamed of.

The SCO has been plunged for more than three years into a deep crisis. In February 2020, Saïd Chabane was also indicted for aggravated sexual assault, after complaints from six young women who were his employees. And sportingly, the club had a disastrous season and was relegated to Ligue 2, from the 33rd day of Ligue 1 at the end of April.
