Euroleague: the mandates of the two main leaders extended

The 13 shareholder clubs of the Euroleague of Basketball have extended the mandates of the president, the former Serbian star Dejan Bodiroga, and the CEO, the Lithuanian Paulius Motiejunas, by four years, until 2028, the Euroleague announced on Wednesday.

The contract of Bodiroga, aged 51, was renewed for the first time in June 2023 by the 13 shareholders of the ECA (Euroleague Commercial Assets, the company which owns the Euroleague), nine months after his arrival as president.

Motiejunas, 43, replaced the American Marshall Glickman in the summer of 2023 after managing Zalgiris Kaunas, the big Baltic club.

This announcement comes as the Euroleague, queen of European men's competitions which operates as a private league by invitation, is considering a possible expansion to the United Arab Emirates (creation of a franchise, organization of Final Four).

“The ECA board of directors (meeting Tuesday and Wednesday in Barcelona, Editor's note) was kept informed of the various talks concerning possible collaborations within the new markets” indicated the Euroleague in its press release.
