In an interview with Belgian media Sporza, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois declared that he would not be present in the Belgian cages this summer. The goalkeeper suffered a cruciate ligament rupture before the start of the season during training. While Belgian supporters hoped to be able to count on their long-time goalkeeper (102 caps), the latter immediately put an end to all expectations regarding Euro 2024.

The reason is not that he will still be recovering by then, but rather that he will not be 100%. “I’m not going to be in the goal at 80% when we have other good goalkeepers. I am putting my honor aside and will just be an additional supporter in June,” he said in his interview. Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
