26 players and only one new. Defender Toti Gomes is the only new addition to Portugal coach Roberto Martinez's list for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is obviously there.
24-year-old Wolverhampton defender Toti Gomes “has different skills. [...] He is physical, very powerful, left-handed. We need different skills,” Martinez told the press conference. The Spanish coach, however, had to do without midfielder João Mario, 30, who announced his international retirement after winning the Portuguese league title with Benfica last Saturday.
In addition to Ronaldo, other executives such as Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva or João Félix are present. Defender Pepe, 40, is there too. Three PSG players, defender Danilo and midfielders Vitinha and Renato Sanches, are also on the list. Parisian left-back Nuno Mendes has had a thigh injury since the beginning of May.
Portugal will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 17 in Lisbon and then travel to Iceland three days later. The Seleção sits at the top of Group J after two days thanks to their victories against Liechtenstein (4-0) and Luxembourg (0-6) last March.
