Cycling: Jorgenson winner of Across Flanders after Van Aert’s fall

The American Matteo Jorgenson won the Across Flanders race on Wednesday, marked by the abandonment of his teammate and favorite Wout van Aert, victim of a violent fall. Already winner of Paris-Nice this year, the Visma-Lease a bike rider escaped from a group of six riders (also with Küng, Abrahamsen, De Bondt, Benoot and Tarling) seven kilometers from the goal to win win alone in Waregem.

This victory brings some comfort to the heart of the Dutch team after the abandonment of its leader Van Aert, during a terrible fall 67 km from the finish. The Belgian was taken to hospital four days before the Tour of Flanders and a week and a half before Paris-Roubaix.
