Biathlon Worlds: Fillon Maillet in bronze on the mass start, new record for Johannes Boe

Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet won the bronze medal during the mass start of the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, won on Sunday by Norwegian Johannes Boe, who obtained a record 20th world title.

“QFM” offers itself a fourth medal during these Czech World Championships, the 13th for France, first in the medal ranking. With now 20 world titles, including three in Nove Mesto, Johannes Boe equals the record of his glorious compatriot Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.

After the last race, France emerged victorious from these Worlds with 13 medals including six gold, and thus beat the record of 11 medals established at the 2016 Worlds in Oslo.

Fillon Maillet had a perfect start to the mass start, taking the lead halfway through the race, but made a mistake on the first standing shot. His passage on the penalty ring left room for Johannes Boe, author of a single fault during the first prone shot, who flew towards a new world title.

The Frenchman then held on to prevent the return of Johannes Boe's older brother, Tarjei, who finished in fourth place, ahead of another Blue, Fabien Claude.

The Latvian Andrejs Rastorgujevs surprised everyone to obtain a nice silver medal, the first of his career at this level at 35 years old.
