Athletics: Cyrena Samba-Mayela accelerates at the French indoor championships

The reigning world champion in the 60 meter hurdles Cyrena Samba-Mayela lowered her best time of the winter on Saturday to win the French indoor championships in Miramas (Bouches-du-Rhône).

Having just arrived from the United States where she is training and where she had a thunderous comeback last week (7 sec 90), the 23-year-old Frenchwoman accelerated again in the final on Saturday to take the title (7 sec 87 ) and the best French performance of the winter. In a very tough final, she beat Laeticia Bapté (7 sec 94) and Solenn Compper (8 sec 00).

The three athletes all met the minimum requirements for the indoor world championships but only two of them will be able to travel to Glasgow (Scotland) at the beginning of March. With his title and his time on Saturday, Samba-Mayela will have priority.
