Jean-Louis Gasset, the coach of Olympique de Marseille, eliminated from the Europa League after its defeat in the semi-final return against Atalanta Bergamo (3-0), advocated “sacred union so that the 'OM finishes European' in the championship.
“We will not forget the course (in the European Cup, editor’s note). We had some magnificent evenings at the Vélodrome. But at the championship level, there are three matches remaining: OM must be European,” said Gasset after the match.
Currently 9th in Ligue 1, Marseille is currently not in the qualifying places for a European Cup next season.
But OM have one match less than their opponents in the fight for the first six places which offer a ticket for one of the three European Cups.
Marseille can also hope that PSG, its eternal rival, wins the Coupe de France against Lyon on May 25, which would offer a place in the Europa Conference League, the C4, to 7th in Ligue 1.

It is only the Vélodrome that transcends them,” he lamented again, referring to the poor results of his team when it plays far from its bases.
OM are penultimate in L1 away and must play Reims on Wednesday May 15 and Le Havre on May 19, two teams within their reach nonetheless. The Marseillais host Lorient, 17th, in L1 on Sunday.
