Martínez-Almeida: "Madrid is one of the great capitals of Law"

EXPANSIÓN held the Legal Awards gala, chaired by the Mayor of Madrid, who stressed that "legal certainty and deregulation are the key to attracting investment",

The newspaper EXPANSIÓN, a leader in economic, financial and business information, has held the Awards for Excellence in the Practice of Business Law at the Duques de Pastrana Complex in Madrid, an event that has the support of Santander as main sponsor, in addition to IE Law School (technical secretariat) and Intertrust and Lefebvre as sponsors.

The seventh edition of these awards, already converted into the great event of the Spanish legal profession, was chaired by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

The 2022 edition has broken all participation records, having received more than 300 applications from a hundred legal firms. The ceremony was attended by the presidents and managing partners of the main law firms operating in our country, as well as secretaries of the board of the Ibex 35 companies and renowned jurists.

The mayor of Madrid assured that the capital is characterized by the excellence of its legal operators. "We can feel proud that Madrid is one of the great capitals of Law". The State Attorney on leave highlighted the number of professionals, nodding to the 425th anniversary of the Madrid Bar Association, the largest in Europe. Likewise, he highlighted the quality of the lawyers who work in the city.

In this line, the councilor recalled the commitment made with the citizens to carry out a regulatory deregulation. Moreover, he referred to the previous editions of the Legal Awards, in which he committed to a simplification of the existing legislation in the Madrid City Council and four years later, he rendered accounts on the same stage.

"Last week we approved a regulatory repeal ordinance that simplifies more than 100 regulations that were obsolete. We have also made an effort in urban planning to unite the two existing ordinances in this area into one."

Likewise, Martínez-Almeida stressed that in order to overcome economic difficulties, opportunities must be generated for those who decide to invest and assured that "Madrid is a city that is in the best moment in its history, although the best is yet to come". For this, he pointed out that the capital is a reference in public-private collaboration.

Ana I. Pereda, director of EXPANSIÓN, agreed with the mayor in assuring that the economy is growing at a slower rate than expected due to "the war in Europe" and inflation. Despite this, she stressed that "there are operations that generate activity for business law professionals" and highlighted how legal certainty is a factor that attracts investment and business creation.

Next Tuesday, July 5, EXPANSIÓN will publish a special supplement with an extensive photographic display of the awards ceremony.
