SNCF strike: find the traffic forecasts for this weekend

Severely disrupted traffic awaits travelers at the station this weekend. One in two TGVs, one in two Ouigos and one in two Intercités will run from Friday to Sunday, indicates the SNCF this Wednesday, due to a strike by controllers, during the school holidays in zones A and C. That is to say approximately one thousand trains canceled out of the 2000 planned over three days, the company specifies in Le Figaro. Only low-speed Ouigo trains will run normally.

Three out of four crew chiefs will be on strike, but the mobilization of volunteer executives will help limit the damage, said the boss of SNCF Voyageurs, Christophe Fanichet, during a press briefing.

The SNCF wanted to give priority to “the fullest trains”, and in particular those bound for the Alps, explained the director of the railway company to the press, accompanied by Alain Krakovitch, director of TGV-Intercités. The Paris-Briançon night train, for example, will be maintained. This priority was not made “with a logic of profitability or profit”, assures Christophe Fanichet in an interview with Le Monde. “If that were the case, we would have removed the Ouigo, our low cost offer, and kept only the TGV Inoui. » The company claims to have wanted TGVs to circulate “throughout the entire territory” so that the offer is balanced on all axes.

People with a train ticket for this weekend must receive an email or SMS confirming that their train is running or telling them that it is canceled. Some have already been warned since Tuesday evening, and all travelers will be informed this Wednesday at the latest of the running conditions of their train for the weekend, management promised.

Travelers whose train is canceled are invited to postpone their trip and can exchange their ticket for another journey free of charge, or can request a refund. “There are 300,000 seats available on the TGVs on Thursday and Monday,” assured Alain Krakovitch.

Management had also promised, Wednesday morning, “exceptional compensation” for affected travelers. During the previous strike at Christmas 2022, SNCF offered a 200% refund for canceled trains. Finally, it will be a 50% discount on a future trip, to be booked within one month. It will be sent by email to people whose train is canceled this weekend.

The striking controllers believe that the agreement negotiated during this previous social movement at the end of 2022 is slow to be implemented by management. The boss of SNCF Voyageurs, Christophe Fanichet, denounced an “incomprehensible” strike.
