Nissan recalls over a million vehicles for manufacturing defects

Japanese automaker Nissan announced Friday the recall of a total of 699,000 vehicles in Japan for various manufacturing defects and warned that hundreds of thousands of units were also affected overseas. These various defects have so far not caused any accidents in Japan, the group said. They relate to units of its Note, Note Aura, Serena, Kicks models and its Leaf electric car. A total of 699,000 units of these models are affected in the country and many of them are affected by several defects at the same time, a spokeswoman for the group told AFP.

In detail, Nissan has recalled 484,025 units of its Note, Serena and Kicks models in Japan for insufficient protection of their engine hoses, which could damage these sheaths and prevent the vehicle from starting. Nissan also recalled 478,199 Note, Note Aura, Serena, Kicks and Leaf units across the archipelago because of an electronic control program that can cause vehicles to accelerate after ceasing to use cruise control under certain circumstances. The group also recalled 126,000 Serena for a wiring problem, and 6,434 Note Aura for a problem with the right front headlight.

Abroad, at least 749,000 vehicles will also be affected by recalls in their respective markets, according to this spokesperson, who was unable to give a more precise figure.
