Fuels: TotalEnergies confirms the price cap until the end of 2023

Will the soaring gas or diesel fuel bill stop soon? TotalEnergies intends, in any case, to take its part in the face of persistent inflation. In a statement released Monday morning, the energy company confirmed the maintenance of the price cap per liter of fuel at 1.99 euros “until the end of the year”.

Announced last February by the CEO, Patrick Pouyanné, this measure will therefore remain in force, as planned. “We do it all year round. (…) Currently 4 stations out of 10 display a price higher than 2€ per litre”, was justified, at the time, the leader of the group. This proportion has increased considerably since: TotalEnergies thus specifies, in its press release, that nearly two thirds of its stations - 2200 out of 3400 - already apply this measure, "since the price of at least one fuel is currently capped at 1, 99 euros per litre”.

Since July, prices at the pump have jumped. The price of the SP98 has thus increased by ten cents, that of the SP95-E10 by eleven, and that of the diesel by seventeen cents. Enough to inflate the bill of the full of several euros for the consumer. A dynamic generated by the increase in prices on the markets, while the barrel of Brent was displayed, this Monday, at 83 dollars, against less than 75 dollars at the beginning of July. In recent days, the rise in prices seems to be slowing down, however, as concerns about global growth, and in particular China, are affecting demand.

In its press release, TotalEnergies also pleads for “greater proximity to its customers”, through two measures. First, the tricolor giant wants to put forward the profession of gas station attendant: “100 TotalEnergies service stations have recruited gas station attendants”, who will fill up the equipment, advise and guide consumers. Three times as many stations will have recruited gas station attendants next year, the company adds.

Then, TotalEnergies intends to continue opening new stations in rural areas of France, “to allow the maintenance of its network of service stations which provide a local service to the French”. Their economic model will be based on "partnerships to contribute to the development of social ties and local commercial dynamism: electric bicycle rentals, registration cards, shops, parcel relay, car garage", explains the firm. A way, too, to participate “in maintaining a local activity, while developing local attractiveness for businesses that are essential in the life of the French in these municipalities”, in the words of the CEO, Patrick Pouyanné.
