Deodorant removed from sale after painful cysts appear

The Nuud brand, specializing in ecological products, has withdrawn one of its deodorants from the market. An announcement which follows the development of “painful cysts” in certain users, reports the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM). The manufacturer indicates on its site that the product is “temporarily unavailable”, and that its teams are working “on a new formula”.

After having "carried out investigations", the ANSM considers that the appearance of cysts "can be explained by the galenic form of the deodorant, a predominantly greasy ointment, which would promote the obstruction of the pores of the armpits, with the possibility of a microbial superinfection, by an occlusive effect. For its part, the company wants to be reassuring, affirming that “99.9% of Nuud users report no adverse effects.”

The health authority specifies that "in most of the reported cases, the cysts disappeared after stopping the use of the product or taking the prescribed treatments". She points out that the ingredients in the deodorant "are not individually considered to be the cause of the reported adverse effects", and also advises to "strictly follow the manufacturer's conditions of use". The company says in its press release that they are developing and testing “a new, less greasy formula,” which will be available soon.
