Will Taylor Swift cancel her concerts in Los Angeles in support of the hotel staff strike?

An open letter to the American pop star was written by various employees in the region on July 27. Published in the Los Angeles Times, the text is supported by Deputy Governor of California, Democrat Eleni Kounalakis, and by dozens of local elected officials, mayors, senators and even by the majority leader in the local assembly, Issac Brian.

In this open letter, strikers and politicians claim that the singer's tour in Los Angeles will boost the income of the local hotel sector, even as employees fight for better wages. “Your tour brings a lot of money to the hotels in which we work, underlines the text. In Los Angeles, they charge (hotels) double or even triple their price because you arrive in the city.”

Meanwhile, according to the letter, many housekeepers and other hotel workers can no longer find accommodation near their jobs. Some sleep in their cars while others risk losing their homes. “Our salaries are very low and many of us will lose our homes. Hospitality workers are fighting for their survival and for a living wage. They went on strike. Now they ask for your support, they urge. Support the employees and postpone your concerts.” The strike was launched by the hotel and restaurant union Unite Here Local 11, which claims 30,000 members.

Taylor Swift, who has not yet reacted to this arrest, is to give six concerts at SoFi Stadium, near Los Angeles from Thursday.
