Paul McCartney ardently wishes to find his Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, an instrument he made legendary having used it from 1961 to 1963 with the Beatles. Disappeared for decades, the instrument maker Höfner himself, after a conversation with the artist, decided today to satisfy his desire, tells us The Telegraph .

The musician was an unknown teenager when he bought it for just 30 pounds in a Hamburg store in 1961, recalls the British daily. The instrument resonated on the titles Love Me Do, Twist and Shout or She Loves You before disappearing shortly before the separation of the group, more than half a century ago. Paul McCartney had since kept the hope of finding the instrument.

Also according to The Telegraph, the instrument was last seen days before McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr ascended to the roof of their Savile Row offices on January 30, 1969 to play for the last times. There are, however, many theories as to what happened to the bass, which is now valued at £10 million. “The lost bass should be valued more like a Van Gogh or a Picasso than just an instrument.
