“Two brief appearances”: Kev Adams explains Depardieu’s presence in Retirement Home 2

The two brief appearances of Gérard Depardieu in Retirement home 2? “We thought about removing them of course, now he's playing a character who died in the first film long before all the controversies. For me he is not part of this film at all,” explains Kev Adams. In the middle of a promotional tour for his new film Retirement Home 2 (which will be released on February 14, 2024, co-directed with Claude Zidi Jr.), the actor justified the choice of the film team to leave the “flashback” scenes in which Gérard Depardieu appears.

“It’s sometimes a little embarrassing and disturbing to have to talk about this controversy when it has nothing to do with our film. And above all it impacts the other actors who are there,” declares Kev Adams on BFMTV. In the sequel to his film released in 2022, which had recorded more than two million admissions, Gérard Depardieu makes “two brief appearances which last 30 seconds”, assures Kev Adams. For him, these flashbacks are necessary for the public: “When we do a “2”, there is a real concern for the public. Often people say, “I didn’t see the “1” so I’m going to be lost.” So we thought it would be cool for the public to summarize certain events that happened in “1” for a better understanding of “2”. This way, there is no need to have seen the first, you can fully enjoy the second.”

Still speaking to BFMTV, the 32-year-old actor assured that he had “nothing more to say about it except that obviously we are appalled by everything we hear and what we learn about him. We find it deplorable, disgusting and we hope that justice will do its job, that’s all.”

A very different position from that of Tuesday January 2 where during an exchange with the public after the preview screening of the film, the actor suggested that he was publicly supporting his partner in Retirement Home . “I think he is certainly the greatest French actor. Without a doubt, anyway. I loved working with him, I learned a lot. And obviously, he never showed any inappropriate behavior, whether verbal or physical, on our film set,” he said.

Questioned by Télé Loisirs on Thursday January 16, Kev Adams returned to his comments: “I had the misfortune to say that he was a great actor, the next day in the press it was said that I was defending him. I do not support it in any way, the only people I think about are the victims, women who are verbally or physically abused every year. Asked if he had noticed any suspicious behavior on the set of Nursing Home, Kev Adams replied: “Of course not, otherwise I would have acted.”

“These are behaviors that are no longer acceptable in our time. I have cousins, I was raised by women, there are things I don't accept, no matter how great an actor you are. There is a limit in life, and when this limit has been exceeded, nothing excuses it,” he concludes.
