Sexual assault complaint against Warren Beatty dismissed

The California courts dismissed on Friday a complaint accusing American actor Warren Beatty of having sexually assaulted a teenage girl on the sidelines of a film shoot in 1973. Kristina Charlotte Hirsch, the complainant, claimed to have met the actor when she had 14 or 15 years old. He was around 35.

Warren Beatty “used his position and status as an adult and Hollywood star to force sexual contact with the plaintiff on several occasions,” the complaint says. The actor allegedly offered to help Kristina Charlotte Hirsch with her homework and take her for car rides. Ultimately, their meeting would have resulted in “a fellatio, a simulation of sexual acts and a forced sexual relationship” she said in her complaint, transcribed by the New York Times.

In 2022, Kristina Charlotte Hirsch said she was still traumatized by what she experienced forty years ago. She suffered in particular from “emotional, physical and psychological distress”. The complaint was ultimately dismissed by a Beverly Hills judge due to procedural flaws.

The complaint was filed in 2022 under a 2019 California law allowing complaints to be filed despite statutes of limitations. It allowed a 40-year look-back period which expired on January 1, 2023.

In addition to his roles in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Heaven Can Wait (1978) and his Academy Award for Best Director for Reds (1981), Warren Beatty is also known for his numerous relationships with different women. He appeared on the arm of Julie Christie, Brigitte Bardot, Vivien Leigh, Jackie Kennedy and Madonna, before marrying, in 1992, Annette Bening, 21 years his junior, with whom he had four children.
