Lizzo accused of harassment by three former dancers

American singer Lizzo is being sued by three of her former dancers for "harassment", "discrimination" and "assault", according to court documents seen by AFP on Tuesday. Plaintiffs Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez have alleged "sexual, religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault and forcible confinement, among other things," their lawyers said in a statement.

According to one of the lawyers, Arianna David and Crystal Williams “were fired while Noelle Rodriguez resigned in the face of this distressing behavior”. The lawsuit was filed Aug. 1 in Los Angeles against Melissa Viviane Jefferson, aka Lizzo, production company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc and dance troupe captain Shirlene Quigley.

According to the court filing, after a concert in Amsterdam, the artist and his team attended a sexual performance in a club in the city's famous red light district. “Lizzo invited her dancers to take turns touching the naked artists”, is it written. During the show, the singer allegedly pressured Arianna Davis to touch the breasts of one of the naked women performing at the club. Lizzo is also accused of making remarks about the weight gain of one of her dancers. Shirlene Quigley is being prosecuted for sexual comments and for trying to spread her Christian faith within the team. According to the complainants, there was also a long-standing dispute over their compensation.

Earlier this year, Lizzo won a Grammy Award in the Recording of the Year category for her track About Damn Time. The world tour for her fourth studio album Special (2022) wrapped up last month. The singer, who claims to be committed against racism, homophobia or grossophobia, has not yet reacted to these accusations.
