James Bond producers not close to naming Daniel Craig's successor

James Bond will be reborn from the ashes of Daniel Craig. But aficionados of the British secret agent will have to be patient two years after the theatrical release of the funereal No Time To Die in which the hero invented by Ian Fleming sacrificed himself. In an interview with the Guardian, its producers confide that they have not yet started working on “the new era and modernization” of the saga which opened with the departure of their favorite actor. We are therefore still far from an announcement which would reveal who would inherit the role and the license to kill of 007.

“We have a long road to go before we manage to reinvent the character,” notes the emblematic Barbara Broccoli. Discussions to modernize the franchise have not yet started, she specifies. She and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson want James Bond's next big-screen adventures to reflect how the world and society have changed over the past decade.

This updating work has always taken place at each handover and change of interpreter, she points out. “I think back to the genesis of GoldenEye (which marks Pierce Brosnan's first film in 1995, editor's note). Everyone said it: 'The Cold War is over, the wall is over, Bond is dead, no one needs Bond anymore, the whole world is at peace and now there are no more bad guys' - Like It was wrong.”

When Daniel Craig took over the role, “we wondered what a 21st century hero would look like.” “Daniel gave us the opportunity to exploit the intimacy, the emotions of the character... and the world was ready for that.” And to emphasize: “The James Bond films reflect the times in which they are located, and there is a very long way to go to reinvent them for the next chapter”.

This period of latency and reflection does not discourage rumors and bets. The press thus reported a meeting between Barbara Broccoli and Christopher Nolan. It was enough for the Oppenheimer director to be the director of future 007 missions.

In the meantime, fans will be able to console themselves with the entertainment show 007 Road to a Million that Barbara Broccoli developed for Amazon Prime Video and which will be put online on November 10. The concept ? Nine duos will compete in a series of events taking them around the world in the footsteps of 007's exploits. Intelligence, endurance and bravery will be put to the test to find out which tandem will win the prize of a million pounds sterling. To advance in the competition, participants will have to answer 10 questions and physical challenges from the Controller. This host will have the facetious features of the star of the HBO series Succession Brian Cox.
