In the battle between Martin Scorsese and Marvel's Avengers, it's time for the dogs

Joe Russo and Martin Scorsese are like cats and dogs. Or, to be precise, like dogs and dogs. Proof of this is that the flagship director of Marvel films made fun of Martin Scorsese on social networks with a gag that caused a lot of reaction. It all starts with a little sketch filmed by Francesca Scorsese, daughter of the Italian-American director. In this video, we see Martin Scorsese in his role as director, giving his dog an audition, encouraging him to “give everything” for the audience. The little film, of which Martin Scorsese and his daughter Francesca are now accustomed to the genre, did not escape Joe Russo. Especially since it features a cute little schnauzer that Scorsese named Oscar. Oscar, like the ceremony where he was cited 13 times and for which he has a trophy.

In a film published in turn, Joe Russo is filmed commenting on the performance of Scorsese and his dog. “Oh look, he has a schnauzer, oh I love schnauzers,” comments the Avengers director. “And his name is Oscar! How cute, eh,” he continues before introducing his own dog and saying, “Come on, Box Office, let’s go.”

The joke did not go unnoticed on social networks where Joe Russo suffered a lot of mockery for his lack of elegance.

Because the 52-year-old director has obviously still not swallowed Scorsese's criticisms of his productions. In 2019, in an interview with Empire, Martin Scorsese made scathing remarks about Marvel mega-productions, which according to him were more “amusement parks” “than cinema”. The response from brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Marvel's biggest hits, was immediate. “Ultimately, we define cinema as a work that brings crowds together around a common and emotional experience,” they replied. We must also say that no one owns the cinema. Cinema does not belong to us. The cinema does not belong to you. Cinema does not belong to Scorsese.”
