The oldest members of Emmaus have clear memories of Lucie Coutaz's hard-working life, but the general public does not know her. Or badly. In November, the biopic of Abbé Pierre gave this shadowy figure his rightful place, at the forefront of the Emmaüs adventure. The abbot's accomplice appeared there in the guise of the actress Emmanuelle Bercot.
The abbot's secretary and accomplice is now the subject of a documentary, Lucie Coutaz, the young lady of Emmaüs, which sheds light on her role in the birth of communities intended for the most disadvantaged. Available from January 7 to 9 on Le Figaro.fr, it is broadcast on Tout l'Histoire, January 8 at 8:40 p.m.
“Abbé Pierre had enthusiasm and charisma, he brought ideas and knew how to make contacts, but the communities could not have functioned without Lucie Coutaz,” assures Anne Véron, author of this documentary with Charly Cancel. Severe but capable of humor, Lucie Coutaz was responsible for organizing communities from the 1950s. Then supported their development.
Abbot Pierre, as we see in this film, placed all his trust in this pious Savoyard woman. He also showed her a lot of affection. “Their correspondence shows the very strong ties that united them,” reports Anne Véron. Lucie Coutaz, the young lady from Emmaüs rewinds the four decades of their singular companionship.
