Storm Depardieu will leave its mark. According to a YouGov study for HuffPost, 62% of those surveyed intend to continue watching films starring Gérard Depardieu. Conversely, 23% said they would stop watching it and 15% said they didn't know.

The cinematic future of Gérard Depardieu has become more than uncertain since the broadcast of a report from “Complément d’investigation” on December 7. We see the actor making misogynistic and degrading remarks, particularly towards a little girl. Targeted by three complaints of sexual violence, he has currently been indicted since 2020 for rape. Thirteen women – actresses, makeup artists and technicians – also testified in Médiapart in April 2023 and accused Depardieu of sexual violence.

The President of the Republic spoke on the set of C à vous on December 20 and defended the artist who was the victim of “a manhunt” who, according to him, “makes France proud” . Comments which sparked an outcry and were the starting point for the publication of several outraged columns. An indignation shared by a majority of French people: 59% of respondents to the HuffPost survey said they did not agree with the comments made by Emmanuel Macron on this subject.

On December 15, former Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak announced the opening of a disciplinary procedure aimed at withdrawing his Legion of Honor from the actor who received it from the hands of Jacques Chirac in 1996. Emmanuel Macron considered that this honorary decoration “was not a moral order” and that removing it would be unfair. On this question, French reactions are mixed. 30% of respondents want it to be removed, 20% do not want it, 35% have no opinion on the issue.
