Cinema: minors under 16 must be accompanied on set

It was a request from actress Judith Godrèche. While 4,000 children are allowed in productions each year, the union of cinema producers announced this morning to the RTL newspaper that they will now have to be “compulsorily” accompanied on set. The objective: to protect miners from drifting on the plateaus.

“What is changing is that this position will become compulsory for all children under 16 who are working on a film. The obligation will result from the fact that the CNC, the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images, will not issue aid to films which do not respect this rule,” declared Valérie Lépine, general delegate of the union of film producers, on the radio microphone.

“The wish of all professionals is that this obligation comes into force as quickly as possible. Now, there are material constraints and new conditions,” continues Valérie Lépine. Among these measures, they will, for example, ask the accompanying person for extracts from the criminal record or proof of significant educational experience to accompany the children. “We are professionalizing this position but we are very confident that this will be applied quickly,” she adds.

This measure comes in the wake of the indictment of two directors for rape and sexual assault by actress Judith Godrèche, when she was a minor. At the start of the week, ten actresses also accused director Philippe Lioret of inappropriate behavior in a professional context.
