Anatomy of a fall: the film achieves a “spectacular” start

The best start in 15 years for a Palme d'Or. Released last Wednesday in dark rooms, the film Anatomy of a fall by Justine Triet, made an excellent start at the box office. “What happens to the film is extraordinary”, enthuses the distributor of the film Jean Labadie, guest of France Info Tuesday August 29. “There was an amazing expectation. We're out on August 23 in 300 theaters and we're off to a spectacular start. What is great is that in terms of market share, we show every day, ”he adds.

Until you hit 1 million admissions? “The exhibitors who show the film have all committed to showing it for a long time, there is strong demand from cities that have not yet started broadcasting. So I think we can do a lot more,” assures Jean Labadie.

Similarly, the feature film is exported and meets with international success. “He won the public prize in Australia, New Zealand, which proves that he travels extraordinarily well”, recalls the distributor of Anatomy of a fall. "There have been fiascos in the history of the Palme d'Or but there have also been a lot of very good results." By way of comparison, the Palme d'or 2019, the South Korean film Parasite by Bong Joon Ho, had totaled nearly two million admissions. "We can see that very regularly, the Palme d'Or brings a very large number of spectators into the room", analyzes Jean Labadie.

Justine Triet's speech at the reception of the Cannes trophy, which had lambasted "the commodification of culture" and sparked controversy, therefore did not tarnish the film's success in theaters, nor discourage spectators. “The public knows how to sort things out.
