British woman sells house she lived in for 102 years

The 104-year-old British woman Nancy Gifford has spent almost her entire life in the same house - now this is to get new residents. On her 104th birthday, which the elderly woman celebrated on Tuesday, she put the house up for sale, British news agency PA reported. She herself moved into a home for health reasons.

While her parents paid just £200 for the three-bedroom house in the English village of Street, Somerset, more than 100 years ago, the elderly woman now wants to sell it for around £170,000. According to the British central bank, the purchasing power of a pound in 1921 would be worth almost 39 pounds (around 44 euros) today.

When the Briton moved in with her family 102 years ago at the age of two, the kitchen, toilet and washing area were not covered. Later, after some modernization, she continued to live in the house with her husband Bert for decades, raising their son, who told the BBC it was "amazing" growing up there. "We were all poor," he said, referring to the neighborhood. "But everyone was happy."
