Filippo Ganna, from the Ineos team, who was among the big favorites of the stage, was impressive by completing the course in 27 minutes 39 at an average of 57.3 km/h, ahead of the Belgian Remco Evenepoel from Soudal -Quick Step of sixteen seconds.

The leader in the general classification, Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), far from being a time trial specialist, finished in thirteenth place 1 min 29 behind the winner of the day but still kept the red jersey of leader.

The Belgian world champion in the specialty, Remco Evenepoel, took twenty seconds from Roglic and climbed to third place in the general classification, 1 min 09 behind Sepp Kuss.

Three-time Vuelta winner and Kuss' team-mate Slovenian Pimoz Roglic is fourth overall, now 27 seconds behind Evenepoel.

The Spaniard Marc Soler meanwhile finished eighth in the day's stage and retains his place as runner-up in the general classification. Frenchman Lenny Martinez, who was third in this Tour of Spain before the time trial, gave up two and a half minutes and fell to fifth place.
