Premier League: Klopp will not join any other English club than Liverpool

“I always invested everything I had. I realized that my resources were not unlimited and I prefer to put everything into this season, then take a break or stop,” he said during a press conference. “We are no longer young rabbits and we no longer jump as high as before,” he told journalists, a few hours after announcing his departure at the end of the season from the club he joined in October 2015.

He justified his surprise choice by the fact that a club like Liverpool required maximum energy which he was no longer able to provide. “This club means so many things to so many people, I can’t do it on three wheels,” he said. “My coaching skills are based on energy and emotion, it takes everything from you and needs everything from you.”

He assures that leaving midway was “not his idea” when he extended his contract until 2026. “My energy level was inexhaustible, but not now”. His decision was not taken “lightly”, he insisted. “It's just the right thing to do and at the right time, I'm convinced, because the club needs time to prepare for the future while we take care of the present.”

Moreover, “the fact that I am not here next season does not mean that we will fight less” this year, assured Klopp, whose team is at the top of the championship, in addition to still being in the running in FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League. His future? "I do not know for the moment. But no club, no selection next year. And no other English club, ever, I promise! Even if I don't have anything to eat, it won't happen. In fact, that (not having anything to eat, editor’s note) doesn’t happen, thanks to Liverpool,” he said with a smile.
