Handball: Valentin Porte announces his international retirement at the end of the season

The left-hander of the France team announced that the Paris Olympic Games would be his last international competition with the Blues jersey. Valentin Porte published a statement this Tuesday on his X account (formerly Twitter) in which he reconsiders his choice.

The one who will have known everything with the French team has decided to push until the Games but not beyond. Aged 33, he is playing his eighth season in the Montpellier ranks. “This carefully considered decision is part of the logic of my evolution within the Blues during the last campaigns. A new group of players is emerging and I have less and less responsibilities with a role very different from that at the club. I complied willingly because the French team has immense value in my eyes.” he declared.

“I have always given everything during these eleven years, more than was even necessary. Today I believe, true to my line of conduct, that out of honesty with what I feel, it is time to let go.” concluded the 2020 Olympic champion. Representing France since 2013, Valentin Porte therefore hangs up with 2 world champion titles, two European champion titles and an Olympic gold medal, at least for the moment.
