Eric Vanderaerden was in the pack known as a dedicated. “He had no complexes,” said Adrie van der Poel. “I got him, straight through the peloton in the wrong direction-stop”, she picked up Ludo Peeters. “That's right,” said Vanderaerden. “I had agreed with some riders in the front of the peloton, among others, with Eddy Planckaert. I attacked and Eddy said, " wait, Wait. It is to zeveren.’ They questioned first. And the peloton responded yet. But then I drove though in the opposite direction, right through the pack.”
Vanderaerden knew by the way still a nice anecdote to tell. “In the Tour of the Netherlands I accelerated once in a village, and hid them behind the façade of the last house. I had afterwards the peloton and in the cars of the team managers came by and picked up behind the last one in. And the peloton, but driving, because I was, supposedly, escaped. There were no earphones, so the team leaders could the riders not notify that I will no longer be in the forefront sat. They have an hour full tray drove, and I hung simply at the tail of the peloton.”
