Belgian delegation returns with 67 medals back from the Special Olympics
More Sport The Belgian delegation of march 14 through 21 participated in the Special Olympics Wereldzomerspelen in Abu Dhabi is home again. This morning put the athletes and their trainers set foot on the ground in Zaventem.

The Special Olympics are every four years is organised for athletes with an intellectual disability. Belgium was in the United Arab Emirates represented by 80 athletes. They won 67 medals (24 gold, 21 silver and 22x bronze) in fourteen sports disciplines. "We started as a solid and well-prepared Belgian team. It has its results in a beautiful medaillewinst, but also in sportsmanship and a great team spirit," says delegation leader Eddy Beckers.

"We have demonstrated their talents in the competitions thanks to the determination of our athletes, the presence of our families, and also the enthusiasm and the support of our fans," adds Zehra Sayin, CEO of Special Olympics Belgium (SOB). "For a small country, we were a large delegation with high expectations and now we're back here with so many beautiful medals. Thank you to all the athletes that we have these moments of pride were able to experience."
