The Social Security legal service initiated 140,000 legal proceedings in 2021

Throughout last year, 12,500 legal reports were issued and 6,500 bankruptcy proceedings were initiated.

The Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, visited this morning, together with the Secretary of State for Social Security and Pensions, Israel Arroyo, the headquarters of the Social Security Legal Service (SJSS), which during 2021 initiated 140,000 judicial proceedings, 24% more than in 2019.

This department, apart from giving legal advice, represents and defends the management entities and common services of Social Security in court. It also extends its scope of advice to the Secretary of State and the Directorate General for Social Security Regulation.

During 2021, it initiated 139,623 judicial processes and appeals, an activity greater than in previous years, and 24% higher than that of 2019, the year prior to the pandemic. Of the processes initiated, almost half (49,350) were processes linked to permanent disability and almost 22,000 to temporary disability.

In addition, last year the Social Security Legal Service carried out 12,442 consultative and legal advisory actions -the main matters subject to advice being those related to collection, benefits and administrative contracting- and initiated 6,464 bankruptcy proceedings.

The action of the legal services in the contentious field covers all judicial bodies, from the courts of first instance, to the Supreme Court, as well as before the Constitutional Court, Court of Auditors, and also in the sphere of the European Union or any other jurisdiction. other foreign jurisdiction.
