The Berlin police are investigating hundreds of cases in which the tires of off-road vehicles have been deflated. A police spokesman said on Friday that more than 600 reports of property damage had been registered since November 2021. The “Tagesspiegel” had previously reported.
It will be checked whether there is a connection to the group "The Tire Extinguishers". According to their own statements, the activists let the air out of the tires of the “unnecessary vehicles” in the name of the climate and are on the road in various German and European cities.
According to a report by "B.Z.", they were active again in Berlin on Friday and let the air out of several larger, highly motorized off-road vehicles in Friedrichshain on the Stralau peninsula. Photos showed flat tires and a leaflet under the windshield wiper. It reads something like: "Caution - your fuel guzzler is deadly". The air was released because "driving around in inner-city areas with a huge vehicle has enormous consequences for others".
According to their own statements, the police were initially unable to provide any information on the specific case in Friedrichshain. However, the police spokesman reported that several vehicles were affected by such actions in the Prenzlauer Berg area at the beginning of March.
