Cuevas del Almanzora: "Every day is March 8"

Cuevas del Almanzora's motto is "Every day is March 8", and they claim this 2022 International Women's Day to be theirs. With this premise in mind, Antonio Fernandez Liria (the mayor of Cuevas) and Melchora Caparros (the Councilor for Equality), presented today's program of activities to celebrate International Women's Day.

Tomorrow is the start of a program that includes the placing of an awareness banner on the Town Hall balcony. The conference for students from IES Jaroso will conclude on March 23rd.

These activities are focused on education, which is the fundamental objective of the March 8 claiming character. According to the local councilor, education is an essential pillar of the creation of a fair society. It recognizes the importance of women's roles and one of its goals it is to ensure they have equal rights and opportunities. Without equality, there is no true freedom.

Many events are designed to reach children. On March 6, the traditional hiking route "Walking together to equality" will be held. A new graffiti under the title "Equals" will be added to the wall of diversity, equality and justice. Two more activities will be held for primary schools, including 'A tale about dragons, princes, and princesses' written by Petronila, and another related to art or culture: a conference on Women Artists (AMC) at the Antonio Manuel Campoy Museum.

The newly inaugurated Violet Corner at the Alvarez de Sotomayor Municipal Library, Cuevas del Almazora will host a storytelling event on March 12. 'Daniela the pirate girls', 'Cap workshop to equality', and the day before, music will be part the 8M activities with the performance ’Concierto por Ellas’ at the Echegaray Cinematheater.

The Villaricos Market will host an information stand, a Book Fair, and the activity of the Institute 'Conspiracy Cupid' from the 14th through the 23rd. A conference to laugh at and deconstruct.

To reach all people, 'give way for equality' signs will be placed around schools this year. We do not want to forget to recognize the importance of women's roles in society, and to promote greater freedom that is based on true equality.

Melchora Caparros said that, "despite many years of fighting for equality and visibility for women, unfortunately, macho mentalities still exist and there is much to be done." We will be launching a new awareness campaign in March 8th, with support from the CMIM and the council.

Cuevas' mayor emphasized that the 8M Cuevas motto is "everyday is March 8 because today's gender equality will be a sustainable future, it will not be a poor future, it will become a complete world in which we do not ignore half its population, and in which they can contribute their full potential without obstacles.
